What are the SATs and APs?

SATs

This is a standardized test which covers a vast array of subjects. It normally contains 20 multiple-choice questions to be answered in a given period of time, typically an hour for each subject. The subjects could be history, language, math, science, or language. It is not only just written tests, but there is a listening component as well. Both written and listening tests are administered on the same day. However, language tests can be given only once in the year. That takes place generally in the month of November. Taking SATs was very popular at one time; however, in the recent years, it isn't as in demand as before. Even college applications don’t have a requirement for SAT scores any more, but if you want to show your skills in more than one subject, you could quote your SAT scores. The colleges that do ask for SAT scores may need up to three scores.

APs

AP is short for an Advanced Placement program which is a program introduced to high school students and typically has a college-level curriculum. The test is designed with the intention to check the level of readiness of high school students for college. Most high-level institutions offer extra credit for students who have written APs and scored well in certain subjects. These exams typically happen in the month of May. The scoring is done on the scale of 1-5, 5 being the highest and 1 being the lowest. To get extra credit in college for APs, your typical score needs to be 3 and above. A few institutions still require a perfect score of 5.
